“Nevertheless, brethren, I have written the more boldly unto you in some sort, as putting you in mind, because of the grace that is given to me of God, that I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Ghost.” (Romans 15:15-16)
Yesterday we talked about the sanctifying work of the Holy Ghost in terms of making us clean, making us new, and making us valuable and precious to God. Paul describes it as making us “acceptable” in today’s verse. What exactly does that word acceptable mean? Well, let’s look ….
Webster’s Dictionary describes it as:
1.) “capable or worthy of being accepted”
2.) “welcome or pleasing”, “without compromise”
What is lacking in your life that keeps you from feeling and being acceptable? Perhaps there is something lacking in your sanctification that keeps you from being holy or obtaining holiness. We all have stumbled at times, and that is why Paul instructs us in the opening verses of this chapter to attend to helping each other: “We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves.
Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification.” (vs. 1-2). And why is this important, you may be thinking? He tells us in (v. 13), so that we may be “filled with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.”
There is that word “power” again. As was previously discussed yesterday, there is no human power on earth able to compare with the “dunamis” power given through the Holy Ghost.
For those who don’t know, or have yet to understand, “dunamis” is a Greek word and means: “act of power” or “miraculous power, or ability” …. also, “natural capability, inherent power; capability of anything, ability to perform any-thing; absolutely, not merely power capable of action, but power in action”
These can be found in the Strong’s Concordance.
Surely we cannot get it much clearer than that. The purpose of Jesus returning back to His Father in heaven was so that He could multiply Himself and His ministry in His followers through the baptism of the Holy Ghost.
It takes this dunamis powerto make us effective witnesses, and enables us to be sanctified and found holy and acceptable to a holy God …..
In closing, how have you stumbled and not kept yourself pure and precious for God? Today, let’s take time to confess our missing pieces and our failures, and ask God to allow the Holy Spirit to make us whole and holy; acceptable and able to heal, mend, forgive, cleanse, and make effective witnesses to the transforming power of the Holy Ghost ….
“And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you for ever; even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth Him not, neither knoweth Him: but ye know Him; for He dwelleth with you, and shall be in you ….. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”
(John 14:16-17, 26)
Let us pray ~
O Father God, thank You for Your grace and mercy. Thank You for Your forgiveness and cleansing. Thank You for the Holy Ghost who is both your presence within me, and your power to reveal the depths, mysteries, and truths of Your Word. Jesus demonstrated this work in the lives of those He touched in His earthly ministry and now I ask that You would do that in my life through the ministry of the Holy Ghost within me, all to Your glory. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen ….
