“Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee.”
My little dog hasn’t been exceptionally trained well when it comes to walks. He doesn’t walk; rather, he sprints. In his excitement, I need a leash on him or he will wander to the ends of the earth sniffing everything out under every nook and cranny. Unlike my dog though, our Christian walk isn’t to be defined by a great leash from heaven. God wants our complete devotion to Him without having to keep us on a leash of potential judgment at all times ….
Many people misunderstand the Christian faith as though we were some kind of robots, or clones mindlessly following after God. The reality of our faith in God is that we come to Him with our own free will and desire. We shouldn’t be moved to follow after the Lord because of fear of judgment and hell. Rather, we should follow Him because we love Him. Our devotion is driven out of gratefulness for being delivered from the restraints of sin and strongholds over our lives which would certainly guarantee us eternal judgment …..
The Lord wants to show His glory and power through His people who follow after Him with a pure heart. As we take the steps of faith, there is a greater closeness we experience with the Lord. The Holy Spirit quickens our hearts and minds to renewed hope and expectation of seeing His will accomplished in our lives. The depth of this joy can’t be matched in any other way, but through obedience to God’s Word.
As the Lord instructs us in the right paths to take; He desires that we trust in His leading with all of our hearts. We resist leaning on our own finite understanding and instead we press forward in faith. He will lead us exactly where we need to be in the right time without the bothers of a leash …..
Dear Lord, I pray for Your continual instruction to lead me in the right paths. I resist following my own understanding and instead trust in You with all of my heart ….
God is with us ….
