“And the Lord said unto Moses, is the Lord’s hand waxed short? thou shalt see now whether my word shall come to pass unto thee or not.”
When the Israelites craved meat, God told Moses that He would send them so much of it that they would loathe it. Moses tried to wrap his mind around that much meat in the middle of the desert. He couldn’t imagine enough to feed 600,000 people. Moses asked God, “Shall the flocks and the herds be slain for them, to suffice them? or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to suffice them?” (v.22)
Moses wanted to know how ~ how was God going to make it stretch to be enough?
Yet, God moved beyond Moses’ expectation and sent quail that was easy enough for children to catch for dinner.
Moses was asking the “how” question that many of us ask of God when we try to figure out our situations. When we are in the deep rut of despair and see no way out, God confirms in His Word that He has the way. However, many of us still ask Him “how?” instead of trusting that He will come through for us. (Psalm 34:10) says, “The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing.”
God owns the cattle on a thousand hills. (Psalm 50:10) As the Creator of the earth, He is in complete control. It’s for our good that He doesn’t always reveal the “how” of His deliverance. As a result, our faith can rise up in the midst of the impossible. We know through the assurance of the Holy Spirit that God has not forsaken us (Hebrews 13:5). We know that He hears our prayers and answers according to His will (Psalm 34:17). We know that He is making everything work together for our good (Romans 8:28).
“The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.”
“Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.”
Instead of asking God “how?”….. we can submit our hearts and minds to completely trust Him in the unknown. We can submit our requests to Him confidently in faith, knowing that He will do a great work in us, through us, and for us …..
Let us pray ~
Dear Lord, You are good and I trust in Your hand over my life even though I don’t understand the “how” of what You are doing and going to do. Increase the measure of my faith through Your Word. In Jesus name, Amen.
God is with us …..
