Prayer Is ……
“Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
(1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)
Prayer is Surrender ~
“And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask any thing according to His will, He heareth us.”
(1 John 5:14)
Nothing lies outside the reach of prayer except that which lies outside of the will of God. God will only answer the request He inspires. You see, prayer is surrender ~ surrender to the will of God. It’s cooperation with His will …. and it’s obedience to follow His will; no matter the cost or sacrifice … This is what makes a Warrior ~
You might be thinking, then why even pray?
Simple: because God wants us to be a part of the process. Here’s how it works. God puts a burden on your heart. It may be for the salvation of someone, the intercession of another, or it may be for some other thing. But when God puts a burden on your heart, you pray. And then you see God do the so-called impossible and answer that prayer ….
“Man, I’m a powerful person of prayer,” you might say. No, you serve a powerful God. And you got in sync with Him when you prayed. This is precisely why we are to “pray without ceasing” that we may always be interceding, intervening, and in constant communication with God.
That is why we should pray for a spiritual awakening in our nation. When we pray for the gospel to go out and for people to believe in Jesus, I believe we are praying according to the will of God and that He will hear it. Why, you ask? Because the Bible says God is “not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9).
We want to get in step with the will of God. Having said that, there is also a place in prayer for our personal needs, because Jesus taught us to pray, “Give us this day our daily bread” (Matthew 6:11).
If I’ve contemplated the awesomeness of God and considered His will and purpose; if I’ve already surrendered my will to Him, asking for His purpose above my own, then it will have an effect on what I am praying for personally …. I have seen and experienced this for myself. I am a living witness. And each time as I see how big God is, I see how small my need is comparatively. You will too as you begin to pray more and trust Him with the outcome ….
Prayer is a Habit Worth Having ~
Do you want to know how to deepen your prayer life? At the risk of sounding like a preacher; which I dare dream I could be deemed so worthy of ~ may I make a suggestion? Why don’t you check your habits?
In (Romans 12:12), Paul says, “Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer”…. In other words, when trials come endure them patiently; steadfastly, and maintain the habit of prayer …. Yes, prayer is a habit worth having. If I must have a habit, oh joy, let it be prayer indeed! Don’t prepare to pray ~ Just pray …. Don’t read about prayer ~ Just pray …. Don’t attend a lecture on prayer or engage in discussion about prayer ~ Just pray …..
Posture, tone, and place are personal matters, and not really of vital importance in the scheme of things. Select the form that works for you. But don’t think about it too much …. I say, “if you think long ~ you think wrong” …. Yes, I am full of my own little quips of wisdom!
More to the point; don’t be so concerned about wrapping the gift that you never give it. Seriously, better to pray awkwardly ~ than not at all. And if you feel you should only pray when inspired, that’s okay too, in the beginning … but just see to it that you are inspired every day. I have found that the deepest and most heartfelt prayers are the ones in which I submit and surrender myself to; when I am not so inspired, or so inclined to pray. When I’m just “not feelin it” or thinking “ahhh, it’s okay if I just skip this round (this prompting) because I just prayed this morning” ….. Not!!!
That’s your enemy come sneaking around with his sly deceptive tactics to keep you complacent and convince you it’s okay if you don’t pray right now …. If you’re prompted by the Holy Spirit, or God places a burden on your heart, or a face comes across your mind’s eye …. You better be obedient and get to praying whether you’re feelin it or not! That prayer could be the very one that will save someone’s life from a crisis, or make the vast difference in a certain someone’s circumstances. Those “don’t feel like it” moments result in the greatest outcomes and most spectacular breakthroughs. Just as similar instances are those times when you just dont feel like going to church …. or you just don’t believe that you can afford to tithe, or fast, or anything. When you allow the devil to convince you that you’re just “too sick” …. “too broke” …. “too weak” or “too tired” to do anything, then you will certainly give in and be defeated. The devil IS a liar and the father of lies (John 8:44) and he delights when he can make you feel discouraged, defeated, deflated. Rise up I say! Take authority and stand strong upon God’s Word which says, “I can do ALL things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”!!!
Let us pray ~
Dear Father God, I pray today that I will yield myself completely to You, so that You may use me in whatever way You choose. I pray that You will provide me opportunities to demonstrate to others; both in word and in deed, how much You mean to me. Please strengthen me Father, to stand strong and be faithful to heed Your voice when You are prompting me to pray. Help me to avoid and resist the temptation to become slack or complacent in my prayer life. Give me wisdom to know what to say, how to pray, and when to pray. And please give me the discernment and sensitivity to speak the truth in love to all that You shall send across my path today. I pray that I may be bold enough to proclaim the gospel of Christ clearly and truthfully and I ask that many seeds may be planted through my actions and attitude, as well as my words today, and everyday.
Thank You Father for sending the Lord Jesus to be my Saviour. May I never lose focus of the amazing grace by which I have been spared by Christ willing choosing to die for my sins on Calvary’s cross and may I never tire of sharing this beautiful truth with whomever You place in my path. Thank You Father that You are faithful to equip all those whom You call into Your service so that they may carry out and complete the work that You have prepared for them to do. Lord You know my own limitation and inabilities and I pray that in the power of the Holy Spirit You would furnish me with the necessary skill and graces to fulfil all that You would have me to do this day. All this I ask in Jesus name, Amen ~
