“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1)
Faith ….. Much to be said about faith. Hebrews is known as the “faith chapter” and one golden nugget is: “without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6).
There’s much wisdom in this. I’d say that wisdom pretty much is the basis we must have to build our foundation upon ….
There is a beautiful verse in Psalms that I cling to in moments that I feel uncertain about things: “Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass.” (Psalm 37:5); but He will not bring things to work out for us until we commit ….
Faith is a receiving of God’s proffered gifts. We may believe, and come, and commit, and then rest; but we will not fully realize all of our blessing until we begin to come into the attitude of obedience to commit all of ourselves to the sole pursuit of loving Him, and pleasing, serving, and obeying Him; just as it is commanded us in (Deuteronomy 6:5) “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.”
And Jesus affirmed this in the New Testament; “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind” (Matthew 22:37).
The Bible often speaks of the importance of faith in knowing God. For example, (Ephesians 2:8-9) teaches: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.” And (1 Corinthians 13:13) adds, “And now abideth faith, hope, charity (love), these three; but the greatest of these is love”…. So then, why is faith so essential, you may ask?
Faith is essential to our lives as believers, and if you’ve ever wondered why faith is so important, hopefully these scriptures will shed some light on the subject. It is the very foundation of our Christian belief. We begin our journey with the profession of our belief and faith in who God is. We believe by faith that Jesus lived, died on the cross, and rose on the third day. Because of our faith, we know that God not only is our Father in Heaven, but He loves us so much that He gave His only Son Jesus for the redemption of our sins. We have faith that God actually loves us enough to take care of our needs. We have faith that He hears our prayers when we call Him (Psalm 34:15).
Having faith is a necessity for Christians, and here are three reasons why it is so important for us to have in faith our lives.
Faith is Pleasing to God ~
(Hebrews 11:6) tells us that without faith it is impossible to please God. Not only must we believe who He is, but we must believe that He rewards those who diligently seek Him. It pleases God when we seek to have a strong relationship with Him that is built on our trust and belief in Him. When we seek Him with a pure and believing heart, God lovingly answers our prayers, heals our bodies, and mends our broken relationships …..
Faith Determines Our Actions ~
Faith is important because it affects the decisions we make, the way we interact with others, and the way we react to the situations that confront us. Faith must be practiced. The more we put our trust in God, the more faith we develop. Some of us start with just a small amount of faith. The Bible talks about having just a “mustard seed” size amount of faith. Have you ever actually looked at a mustard seed? It is so tiny, and God says, “thats all you need ~ I’ll do the rest”…. It is not the amount that counts, it is the belief in our heart that at ALL times God is with us, God is for us, and God will provide for us, and will rescue us from the enemy. Faith in practice develops more faith in action ….
Faith Will Give Us a Testimony ~
Our testimony and witness is based on our faith. Have you noticed that we win others to Christ not only by our actions, but also by the words that we speak? When something great happens, we often cannot wait to share the good news. This is how we should be as Christians. We should be sharing our good news of faith about how God worked in our lives, changed our situations, healed our bodies, and helped us through tough times. The words of our testimony not only build up the person speaking, but they give courage to the hearer of the testimony and encourage them to believe God, too …..
In summary; having faith as a believer is the starting point of a loving relationship with our Heavenly Father. Start believing God today for those little things that need changing, and before you know it, you will have faith that moves mountains in your life ….
Let us pray ~
Father; as we recall the steadfast faith and hope in God that so many of the great cloud of witnesses displayed in Hebrews and elsewhere, we pray that we too may follow their example and place our entire faith in Your precious Word. May we develop an ever deepening trust in You, knowing that Your Word is faithful and true. May we be nourished by Your Word day by day and be refreshed with rivers of living water that stream into our hearts from above, so that whatsoever we do will be pleasing to the You and glorify Your name, and the name of Jesus.
We Thank You that in Christ we have been forgiven of all of our sins, and delivered from the power of sin in our lives and may we pass on a trust in the Lord Jesus to our children and children’s children, so that in the next generations a living trust in God may be their witness to the world; and faith in His Word may be a testimony that will also pass on to all their children. Keep us standing firm in truth of Your Word, that has been delivered to us through the many great men and women that have gone before us, and keep us stedfast and true to all that we have learned of Your grace and mercy, so that our lives may demonstrate an ever deepening love for You, until that glorious day, when we are taken to be with You in heaven; and we will be known as we are known. This we pray in Jesus’ holy name, Amen.
“For thou wilt light my candle: the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness.” (Psalm 18:28)
God is with us ….. God bless you all ~
