~ Thankful Always ~
“Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ”
The one who is born again by the work of the Holy Spirit and under the complete control of the Holy Spirit exhibits a genuine and on ongoing thankfulness to God. Giving thanks is an outward expression of the heart that has been changed because of God’s love and grace. The supernatural response from the undeserving sinner touched and changed by the power of grace, is that of praise and thanksgiving. Such ones that once walked the path of indulgences into sin of most any kind, and having experienced God’s rescue and redemption through grace, will undoubtedly need no one to remind them to “give thanks”….. This just flows naturally out of a grateful heart. The child of God who is saved from a fire, storm, disease, or disaster will give thanks unprompted; for thanks is the expression of just how much one loves and appreciates the goodness of God …. Just as the scripture declares; our thanks must be offered to the Lord “always” and “for all things”…..
The Spirit filled Christian is under the influence and control of the Spirit thus every thought and deed is directed by the Spirit. Thoughts of thanks naturally become words of thanks. When we think on the protections and provisions of our good God; we will first give thanks personally and then publically, which is as it should be. At all times and in all things, including the good times and bad times, praise and thanksgiving should be given unto God in the “name of our Lord Jesus Christ”….. and our “thanks giving” will be expressed in our “thanks-living” …. That is, every day will be a day for giving thanks.
Others will see our attitude and actions, and be humbled, and as the scripture also says, they will be glad ….. “I will bless the Lord at ALL times: His praise shall “continually” be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the Lord: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad” (Psalm 34:1-2) …..
Our words and deeds, as well as our thanksgiving and praise will be a living bill board that continuously reflects to others the goodness and grace of the One True God.
As we give thanks daily for all the Father has done, is doing, and will do; we walk in the steps of Jesus. The night before His crucifixion, Jesus communed with His disciples in the last supper with a thankful heart, “He took bread, and gave thanks…” (Luke 22:19) After His suffering of death on the cross, followed by His resurrection from the dead, Jesus sat down to share a meal. He began the meal by saying a blessing, “And it came to pass, as He sat at meat with them, He took the bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them.”(Luke 24: 30).
In conclusion; Jesus is our example leading the way in giving thanks. Today, as in every day, we should all give thanks in ALL things, ALWAYS and CONTINUALLY, as David said, offering praise to our Lord because of who He is, and not just for what He does in our behalf … Therefore be thankful always, be humble, and have a grateful heart in everything …..
“Be careful (anxious) for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
“This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.
It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in Him.The Lord is good unto them that wait for Him, to the soul that seeketh Him.”
